Privacy Policy
This page is maintained by the CodeVault team to answer common questions about how we handle your data. CodeVault ("we", "us") is a free online platform for learning to code. We keep this policy short and in plain English on purpose.
1. What we collect
When you use CodeVault, we may collect:
- Account data — email, username, and a password hash (we never see your raw password).
- Learning progress — lessons completed, XP earned, streaks, cosmetics owned, exam results, and certificates issued.
- Content you submit — code you type into lessons and exams so we can grade it and show you feedback.
- Basic technical data — IP address, browser type, and device info, used to keep the service secure and running.
We do not sell your data. Ever.
2. How we use it
- To run the platform: sign you in, save progress, hand out XP, and issue certificates with your name on them.
- To improve lessons based on where people get stuck.
- To keep accounts safe (fraud, abuse, account recovery).
- To send occasional service emails (password reset, certificate issued, important changes).
3. Your certificate
When you pass a final exam, we generate a public certificate page at a unique URL containing your chosen display name and the language you learned. If you don't want your name public, use a pseudonym on your profile before claiming the certificate.
4. Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage strictly to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (like theme). We do not use advertising trackers.
5. Third parties
CodeVault runs on a small number of infrastructure providers that store data on our behalf (hosting, database, authentication, email delivery). They only process data to provide the service and are bound by their own security terms.
6. Your rights
You can view and edit your profile at any time. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us at privacy@code-vault.lol. Depending on where you live (EU/UK/California and others), you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or restrict processing of your data.
7. Children
CodeVault is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and row-level access controls on our database. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take it seriously.
9. Changes
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email.
